The Second Western District Military Court sentenced Rostislav Zhuravlev, accused of blowing up the car of former officer of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Prozorov, to 16 years in a high-security penal colony. This was announced on August 18 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Zhuravlev will spend the first five years of his sentence in prison. He was also fined 500 thousand rubles.

Zhuravlev pleaded guilty, testified against other defendants and made a deal with the investigation. The court considered his case in a special order.

The accomplices of the defendant, Vladimir Golovchenko and Ivan Paskar, were also arrested. Golovchenko admitted his guilt and said that he had placed an explosive device under the car of a former officer.

According to the prosecutor's office, the organizer of the crime promised the defendants the opportunity to travel abroad. Communication between members of the criminal group was carried out via messenger, and explosives and components were obtained from Lithuania.

Svetlana Petrenko, the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia (IC RF), announced on July 18 that the investigation had completed the investigation of criminal cases against Vladimir Golovchenko, Ivan Paskar and Rostislav Zhuravlev.

On April 12, 2024, the investigation opened a criminal case after the explosion of a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV in the capital in the parking lot of a house in the Zapadnoye Degunino district. It was noted that ex-SBU officer Vasily Prozorov was in the car. The incident occurred while turning on the ignition, as a result of which the owner of the car injured his leg.
