- The first interregional Horizon Festival will be held from October 13 to October 29 in Kamchatka.
Horizon is a new direction of the program for the development of theatrical art in the Far East, which was launched in 2018. The project combines grant support for young directors, updating the repertoire of regional theaters and hosting vibrant cultural events such as the Festival of Theaters of the Far East in Yuzhno—Sakhalinsk and the International Pacific Theater Festival in Vladivostok.
The ideologist of the project is Evgeny Mironov, People's Artist of Russia, head of the Theater of Nations and head of the Program for the Development of Theatrical Art in the Far East.
The festival has the status of an interregional forum. Special attention is paid to the local theater community: its representatives will receive professional reviews of performances, practical trainings and seminars that turn the festival into a professional workshop.
On October 14, the festival will open with a performance concert "Russian Cross" with the participation of Evgeny Mironov. Director Marina Brusnikina combined the poem of the same name by Nikolai Melnikov with the author's electronic music by Nikolai Popov and the folk sound of the Komon folklore ensemble, defining the genre of the production as a folk mystery.
On October 17-18, the audience will see a puppet show on the water "Turandot" (S. V. Obraztsov Puppet Theater, Moscow) directed by Boris Konstantinov. Based on the classic play by Carlo Gozzi, two worlds collide: strict China and romantic Italy. The story of the unapproachable Princess Turandot and the ardent Prince Kalaf is shown with such sincerity and passion that it is easy to forget that there are dolls on the stage.
October 21-22 — philosophical tragedy "King Lear" (Gran Theater, Novokuibyshevsk) based on the play by William Shakespeare. Director Denis Bokuradze, strictly following the development of the original plot, shifts the emphasis, focusing on the relationship between people in a fierce struggle for power and showing the way to "humanize" Lear.
October 24 — The chamber musical directed by Alexei Frandetti based on Jean Webster's bestseller Dear Mr. Smith (Sadovaya Theater, St. Petersburg) will present the story of orphan Judy and her mysterious patron. Thanks to a stranger, a girl gets a chance to change her life, but with one condition: She should write him detailed letters about her life. The longer their correspondence lasts, the more questions there are. Who is he? Why does it help? And what is hiding?
Before the performance, there will be a theatrical mail service, through which young festival guests will be able to write and send letters to the "Comedian's Shelter", and then receive a reply message.
October 26 — the play "The Heart of a Dog" (Krasny Fakel Theater, Novosibirsk) directed by Roman Gabria. On the stage is one of the rooms of the famous Professor Preobrazhensky, where a fantastic operation was performed. The audience is invited to witness and be complicit in everything that happens in the apartment on the corner of Prechistenka and Obukhov Lane. They will have to find the answer to the question: was it a breakthrough, a miracle, or a crime?
October 14-23 — the premiere audio performance "Everything visible around" by the director-conceptual designer Alexander Shumilin in digital format will tell about how space forms feelings. An immersive walk through Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, created by the NMHT Theater company (Perm) together with KamSU students and local residents, is a reflection on the personal and universal, on how space and time shape us, and how we, in response, fill them with our feelings. The production is implemented in a digital format with elements of immersive and site-specific theater. After the completion of the premiere screenings, the play will remain in the urban space and will be available for viewing at any time of the year.
The Horizon Festival will host a Theater Blogger School. The project is aimed at both novice bloggers and journalists, as well as experienced authors. Participants will attend lectures, practical classes, performances and meetings with artists and creators of productions. The program will be led by Alexandrina Shakleeva, a critic, author of the telegram channel "Mama, what a Drama", a member of the jury of Russian theater festivals and laboratories.
