Prime Minister of Republika Srpska Viskovic has resigned.
Prime Minister of Republika Srpska (RS, Entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH) Radovan Viskovic has resigned. He stated this during a press conference on August 18.
"This is the day I have been waiting for since my appointment as Prime Minister of Republika Srpska. This is also my contribution to the expansion of consensus in Republika Srpska," Radio Slobodna Evropa quoted him as saying.
The reasons for Vishkovich's resignation were not announced. He himself clarified that he would remain a member of the SNSD (Alliance of Independent Social Democrats) party.
Earlier, on August 6, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH made a unanimous decision to revoke the mandate of RS President Milorad Dodik and call early elections. The Bosnian authorities decided to revoke the mandate after the decision of the Court of Appeal, which upheld Dodik's February sentence. Prior to that, on February 26 of this year, he was sentenced to a year in prison and deprived of his right to hold public office for six years. In March, the BiH prosecutor's office decided to detain Dodik.
