An earthquake of magnitude 5.6 was recorded in the Kamchatka Territory. This was confirmed on August 18 by data on the website of the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
It is noted that the seismic event occurred 223 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 71 km. It was followed within half an hour by two aftershocks of magnitude 4.3 and 4.
Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded in the Kuril Islands area. It is specified that the seismic event occurred at a distance of 97 km from Severo-Kurilsk.
