A referendum on confidence in the political course of the Republika Srpska leadership will be held in Republika Srpska (RS) at the end of September. This was announced on August 18 by the head of RS Milorad Dodik.

"We demand respect and freedom, which will be achieved through a referendum. Here's our message: bring us back to the Dayton Peace Agreement. We will express our opinion at the referendum, which will be held at the end of September," Dodik said at a press conference. His words are quoted by the Republika Srpska Radio and Television Company (RTRS).

He added that Republika Srpska would oppose any external interference in its affairs.

On August 6, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH made a unanimous decision to annul Dodik's mandate and call early elections. The Bosnian authorities decided to revoke the mandate after the decision of the Court of appeal, which upheld the February verdict of the politician. Then he was sentenced to a year in prison and deprived of the right to hold public office for six years. On August 12, the BiH Court granted Dodik's defense's request for a fine to be commuted to imprisonment.

President of Republika Srpska Dodik stated that he does not intend to leave his post and the territory of the republic. He initiated a referendum, in which, according to him, the people will express their will regarding his mandate and the further exercise of presidential powers.
