The AFD called on Merz to start a dialogue with Russia to normalize bilateral ties.
The leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, on Monday, August 18, called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to start a dialogue with Russia to normalize bilateral relations.
According to her, the Chancellor's "euphoria" regarding NATO security guarantees for Kiev actually means sending German soldiers to the territory of Ukraine.
"Germany needs reconciliation with Russia instead of constant confrontation," Weidel wrote on the social network X.
On August 16, Merz said that the Government of Ukraine can count on the "unwavering solidarity" of European countries in achieving peace. In addition, the Chancellor expressed support for the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
On July 2, Alternative for Germany (AfD) party deputy Steffen Kotre said in the German parliament that it was necessary to lift sanctions that harm Germany, as well as return cheap and reliable Russian energy.
