Over the past weekend, 716 road accidents occurred on Russian roads, in which 77 people were killed and 899 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on August 18 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
22 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which four people died, and 35 more road users, including five minors, required medical assistance. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 124 road accidents, 36 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 88 outside their area of operation, 16 pedestrians were killed, and 113 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 31 young pedestrians among the injured, 25 of them were injured when crossing the roadway in unintended places. 131 accidents involving minors were also registered, 141 young road users were injured. Three children were killed: two were drivers of motor vehicles, one was a passenger.
So, at night in the Republic of Bashkortostan, a passenger car driver at an unregulated intersection, when turning left, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a pit bike moving in the opposite direction under the control of a 15-year-old driver who was traveling without a motorcycle helmet. As a result of the accident, the minor pit bike driver died from his injuries at the scene.
At night in the Republic of Tatarstan, a 15-year-old car driver lost control and drove off the road, after which the car overturned. As a result of the accident, the minor driver was killed. The car belonged to the grandfather of the deceased teenager, who took the car with the permission of the owner.
In the Republic of Khakassia, a driver of a passenger car with a trailer at an unregulated intersection, when turning left, did not provide an advantage in traffic and collided with a motorcycle moving in the opposite direction under the control of a 27-year-old driver who was driving the vehicle without a helmet and refused a medical examination. As a result of the accident, an 11-year-old motorcycle passenger, who was traveling without a helmet, died from his injuries at the scene.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called on parents to strictly monitor and stop attempts by children and teenagers to get behind the wheel on their own during the long summer holidays, as well as to exclude for them the possibility of accessing the keys of cars, mopeds and motorcycles, prohibiting driving without the appropriate rights and skills.
The lack of control over the behavior and summer leisure of teenagers often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users who do not have driving school training, as well as driving skills. Administrative liability in the amount of 30 thousand rubles is provided for the transfer of the right to drive cars and motor vehicles to children who do not have a driver's license of the appropriate category.
"We remind parents to teach their children discipline and responsibility for their actions. Adult road users should demonstrate safe behavior on the road by personal example, as well as regularly remind minors of the need to strictly observe traffic rules," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
