Gynecologist warned about the dangerous consequences of uterine fibroids
Uterine fibroids remain one of the most common gynecological diagnoses in women of reproductive age. Despite the benign nature of the neoplasm, the disease can pose a health threat if detected late. On August 19, Madina Bekova, a gynecologist at the SM Clinic, told Izvestia why some women bring fibroids to a critical stage.
Bekova listed a number of reasons, explaining why uterine fibroids are not always detected on time.
First of all, this is an asymptomatic course of the disease in the early stages. Many women lose their vigilance due to the absence of characteristic symptoms, such as pulling pain in the lower abdomen or constant menstrual irregularities.
According to the gynecologist, the difficulties in detecting this disease are primarily related to the location of myomatous nodes. The further away the node is located from the uterine cavity, the less likely it is that it will cause any complaints about the well-being of patients. As medical practice shows, most of the nodes located in the cervical area or in the muscular layer of the uterine walls develop without any symptoms for a long time.
Such a silent nature of the disease often leads to the fact that in some cases women seek medical help already with a significant increase in the size of fibroids and a violation of the function of the pelvic organs.
Another reason for the late diagnosis of a neoplasm is the slow growth of myomatous nodes.
"Most fibroids have remained unchanged for many years. It is only in certain situations, usually during pregnancy (the so-called hormone surge) or with hormonal disorders in the body caused by other causes, that the rapid growth of nodes begins. This condition is accompanied by physical discomfort, which a woman can no longer ignore," Bekova said.
Finally, neglect of one's health and irregular visits to the gynecologist are also some of the key factors. In the later stages, the doctor warned, fibroids cause many health problems, starting with extremely unpleasant symptoms (heavy bleeding, severe pain, bladder and bowel disorders) and ending with reproductive dysfunction. Infertility is the most dangerous complication for young women associated with uterine fibroids.
The gynecologist warned: the key to maintaining women's health is regular checkups with a doctor. Ultrasound of the pelvic organs is still the main method of detecting the disease at an early stage with asymptomatic nodular development.
"Fibroids may not manifest themselves for many years. But this does not mean that the disease is not progressing. We strongly recommend that women aged 30-35 undergo pelvic ultrasound at least once a year, even in the complete absence of complaints," Bekova advised the patients.
Earlier, on March 8, gynecologist of the medical center of Dr. Alexandrovsky Vladimir Komagorov told Izvestia about the method for the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine pathologies. According to him, hysteroscopy is one of the most informative and effective procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine pathologies. The method allows you to examine the uterine cavity and accurately remove pathological formations, avoiding more traumatic operations.
