Commentator Alexander Boyarsky called his words about female referees unacceptable. He also apologized to the referee of the Youth Football League—3 (UFL-3) match between Rodina and Zenit St. Petersburg, Arina Stanovova. On August 18, Boyarsky wrote about this in his Telegram channel.

Earlier, during the match between Rodina and Zenit, he criticized the work of the chief referee of the match, Arina Stanovova. Then Boyarsky said that women belong in the kitchen and they should have children. According to him, every time a woman becomes an arbitrator, "some funny things start."

As Stanovova told Izvestia, all people can make mistakes, but such statements are unacceptable.

"Girls are allowed to play men's soccer and are given the go—ahead to try their hand at it," she recalled.

In addition, Stanovova said that the sports journalist had not contacted her to discuss the incident.

"I made a mistake yesterday. And first of all, I want to apologize to the referee Arina Stanovova and her colleagues in the football department. Of course, I was wrong and I fully realize it. My statements about refereeing are absolutely unacceptable in the work of a commentator," Boyarsky said.

The commentator also said that he made such statements out of emotion. According to him, he was worried about what had happened. In addition, Boyarsky asked for forgiveness from the Rodina football club and academy, with whom he collaborated.

"Of course, I don't think that women have no place in men's football. I am familiar with many of them and have never questioned their ability to work in this sport and bring benefits," he said.
