Fraudsters steal funds through applications that are designed to speed up appointments with doctors. This was reported on August 18 by TASS with reference to the Russian Interior Ministry.

Attackers communicate with potential victims in messengers. They are trying to convince Russians to download remote phone access and online banking programs to supposedly speed up the procedure for making appointments with doctors.

When contacting potential victims, scammers give names and patronymics. They ask how much time a person spends making an appointment with a doctor. If the victim has any complaints about this process, the attackers listen, after which they offer to download programs to their phone for allegedly viewing free coupons.

The Interior Ministry urged not to install suspicious applications on the phone at the request of unknown persons, as well as not to inform them about their finances.

Earlier, on August 12, the Department for combating the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that the transfer of communication to unofficial messengers, frequent changes of banking details, and pressure on the urgency of payment are among the top ten signs of fraud in online purchases. Other suspicious signs are a sudden change in the minimum withdrawal amount, blocking refunds at the checkout stage, abandoning alternative shipping methods, and insurance as a mandatory down payment.
