The European leaders who will go to a meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine are the "babysitters" of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky. Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel told Izvestia about this on August 18.

"Now there are all these "baby sitters" (babysitters — Ed.), all these figures who supported Ukraine with weapons and money, and now they also want to participate in the discussion, right? The Europeans. But I think that Mr. Trump will understand that there is no point in continuing negotiations with these people, because they have ruined Europe, they have weakened it economically," Poppel said.

He stressed that the leaders of the European states had not made a positive contribution and should not participate in the meetings. According to the analyst, partnership with Berlin, London, Paris or Brussels in the current realities will not help negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

Trump will hold a meeting with Zelensky in Washington on August 18 to discuss a peace treaty with Russia. The meeting of the US president with the Ukrainian leader will take place at 20:15 Moscow time.

On the same day, Zelensky announced that he could immediately end the Ukrainian conflict if he renounced his claims to Crimea and his intention to gain membership in the North Atlantic Alliance.
