The Russian Ambassador noted the similarity of the positions of Russia and Indonesia on the Middle East

The Indonesian government highly appreciates Russia's position on the Middle East. This was stated on August 18 by Russian Ambassador to the Republic Sergey Tolchenov in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to him, Russia and Indonesia are like-minded people in countering modern challenges and threats. The countries also have a common opinion on ways to solve urgent global and regional problems in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

"Jakarta particularly appreciates the similarity of our positions in the Middle East settlement, primarily in the context of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli confrontation," Tolchenov said.

He added that Russia and Indonesia are actively cooperating in the framework of preventing an arms race in outer space, combating international terrorism, extremism, cybercrime and neo-colonialism. Moscow and Jakarta also jointly oppose the "politicization" of the relevant UN platforms.

The parties agreed to simplify the visa regime and strengthen cooperation in ASEAN, G20 and BRICS.

On August 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow aims to develop multifaceted Russian-Indonesian relations and increase the effectiveness of joint coordination on various multilateral platforms, including BRICS. The Ministry also congratulated Indonesia on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the country's declaration of independence. It is also noted that this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Indonesia.

On June 19, the Presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, adopted a declaration on strategic partnership between the two countries. In addition, Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign countries, Director General of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), and Rosan Ruslani, Director General of the Sovereign Wealth Fund of the Republic of Indonesia, signed an agreement to create a €2 billion Russian-Indonesian investment platform.
