Ukraine may agree to territorial concessions in return for security guarantees. This was announced on August 18 by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"As part of a truce, cease—fire or peace agreement, a country can admit that it has lost certain territories, that they are frozen," he said following a videoconference with the coalition of the Willing. His conversation with media representatives was published on the YouTube channel of the newspaper Le Figaro.

Macron clarified that Kiev does not recognize the territories under the sovereignty of the Russian Federation, but recognizes their loss as a result of the fighting, clarifiesГазета.Ru ".

Earlier, on August 17, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ruled out outside pressure on Ukraine over the future of the country's territories. At the same time, in his opinion, Kiev is making excessive demands on Moscow, knowing that the Russian Federation will not agree to this.

Prior to that, on August 16, The Wall Street Journal learned about the readiness of US President Donald Trump to provide "security guarantees" to Ukraine. It was noted that after the conversation with Trump, the EU leaders welcomed the president's words about his intention to provide these guarantees.
