Ministry of Defense: air defense systems shot down 23 drones over Russia

The Air Defense Forces shot down 23 drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) over the territory of Russia. This was announced on Saturday, August 18, by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"During the past night, from 20:00 Moscow time on August 17 to 06:00 Moscow time on August 18, 23 Ukrainian aircraft—type unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed by air defense systems on duty," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.

According to the military department, eight drones were shot down over the Tambov region, five over the Sea of Azov, and two over the Black Sea. Four more drones were neutralized in other regions: one each in the Kursk and Voronezh regions, one in the Krasnodar Territory and one in the region of the Republic of Crimea.

And why is it more profitable to use them than anti-aircraft missile systems?

The day before, it was reported that the air defense forces destroyed 46 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the regions of Russia overnight. Thus, 16 drones were eliminated in the skies over the Belgorod region, 14 over the Nizhny Novgorod Region and nine over the Voronezh Region. Three more drones were destroyed over the Bryansk region and one each over the territories of the Kursk, Smolensk, Kaluga and Oryol regions.
