- The Security Council of Belarus pointed to the unwillingness of the West to end the conflict in Ukraine
Western countries do not intend to end the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on August 18 by Alexander Volfovich, Secretary General of the Security Council of Belarus.
"We see how painfully, unfortunately, the leadership of the West (Western politics first of all) reacts to issues related to the cessation or suspension of hostilities during a special military operation. They are not interested in this," he said on the STV TV channel.
According to him, currently there is a militaristic policy in Poland and the Baltic countries, in particular in Lithuania. Volfovich clarified that the Belarusian side had taken the first step on the part of the president, the Foreign Minister and the military leadership by appealing to neighboring countries to find consensus, sit down at the negotiating table and find common ground.
The Secretary General of the Security Council of Belarus stressed that Minsk "does not make friends" with neighboring states. He noted that the countries should act in cooperation to do everything possible to ensure security in the territories.
Earlier, on August 17, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The heads of state discussed the situation in the region, taking into account the Russian-American talks that took place on August 15 in Alaska. It is specified that the Russian president informed his Belarusian counterpart about the results of the summit. Lukashenko, in turn, shared the details of a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
