An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 was recorded near the Kuril Islands. This was announced on August 18 at the Kamchatka branch of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

It is specified that the seismic event occurred at a distance of 97 km from Severo-Kurilsk. Information about the victims was not reported.
