Starting from September 1, a new standard of permissible workload for schoolchildren will come into force in Russia. This was announced on August 18 by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, whose documents were reviewed by RIA Novosti.

Starting from the new school year, all first grade students will study for up to 653 hours, the workload for the second, third and fourth grades will range from 782 to 884 hours, and in the fifth grade students will study for no more than 1088 hours.

At the same time, starting from the sixth grade, the norm will be from 1020 to 1122 hours, seventh grades will study up to 1190 hours, and the workload for eighth and ninth grade students will be no more than 1224 hours.

The exact number of hours will depend on the options for federal educational plans. In addition, the number of study periods in the first half of the year will be no more than eight academic weeks, and in the second — no more than 11, with the exception of first-graders, for whom there will be 10 weeks.

On August 14, Olga Letkova, Chairman of the Association of Parents' Committees and Communities of Russia, said that seven regions of the Russian Federation will introduce grades for behavior in schools starting this academic year. It is specified that this initiative was introduced in Yaroslavl, Novgorod, Tula, Leningrad regions, LNR, Chechnya and Mordovia. According to the expert, the parental community in most cases supports the view that children need to be disciplined.
