On August 17, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan apologized for using harsh language against the clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC).

"My apologies relate to two specific statements on which the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption has made a decision," he said in a Facebook post (the social network, which is banned in Russia, belongs to Meta Corporation, and is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

At the same time, Pashinyan stressed that he agreed with the Commission's estimates only partially. The Armenian prime minister admitted that he should "better control his emotions."

The Commission's conclusions are based on a review of Pashinyan's publication, in which he used a word with two meanings ("dompel"), one of which is "to have sexual intercourse" and the other is "to hit." The results of the linguistic examination revealed that the Armenian Prime minister used the word in the first sense.

On June 28, the Yerevan court arrested Archbishop Mikael Ajapakhyan for two months. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has opened a criminal case against Ajapakhyan for calls to overthrow the government in the country. In turn, Armenian lawyer Varazdat Harutyunyan stated that the criminal case against the archbishop on calls to seize power is absurd from a legal point of view.

On June 28, the Armenian Apostolic Church called on the country's judicial system to act within the law and immediately release the archbishop, who was arrested for two months. It is noted that the anti-church policy of the state, as well as the rhetoric of hostility and hatred against the clergy by Pashinyan and other high-ranking officials of the country led to the arrest.

On July 8, Pashinyan announced his intention to lead a movement against the leadership of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He also spoke harshly about the clergy, saying that "the house of Jesus Christ is occupied by an anti-national and anti-state group and must be liberated."
