On August 18, American leader Donald Trump thanked President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko for making the decision to pardon the prisoners, and also expressed the hope that the republic would release more than 1,000 more people.
"I hope another 1.3 thousand people will be released soon," the US president said in a message on Truth Social.

On August 15, Trump described his last telephone conversation with Lukashenko as wonderful, adding that the talks had been fruitful. The American leader added that he was looking forward to meeting with his Belarusian counterpart in the future.
