American leader Donald Trump has a negative attitude towards Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, and therefore the Ukrainian leader needs the presence of European heads of state during negotiations in Washington to lobby Kiev's interests. This was stated to Izvestia by former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov.

"It is clear that Trump treats Zelensky with antipathy, and it is clear that the cohort of all these hawks is needed for only one thing — to put pressure on Trump. Because Zelensky is nothing to the American leader, and the February meetings showed that. Trump is a strong politician, but he naturally has to take into account such enormous pressure from his so—called allies," he said.

On August 18, Donald Trump will hold a meeting with Vladimir Zelensky in Washington, then negotiations will continue in an expanded format with the participation of European heads of state.

On August 17, the special envoy of the American president, Steve Witkoff, said that the United States, among other things, intends to discuss the issue of the exchange of territories between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
