The Coalition of the Willing has declared its readiness to deploy multinational "deterrence forces" in Ukraine after the end of hostilities. This was announced on August 17 by the office of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"The leaders gathered to discuss support for Ukraine. <...> They reiterated their readiness to deploy deterrence forces after the cessation of hostilities," the statement said.

The leaders also expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for his commitment to ensuring Ukraine's security. At the same time, the members of the "coalition of the willing" stated that they also intend to play a "vital role" in this.

Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on August 17 that the European Union (EU) was forced to accept its secondary role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine due to an illiterate strategy. For example, Europe refused to start negotiations with Moscow in a timely manner and made "erroneous bets."

Also on the same day, Michele Geraci, former Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy, told Izvestia that Europe, by supporting Ukraine, had arbitrarily deprived itself of the role of mediator in resolving the conflict.
