Zakharova caught Macron in low lies about Putin and Russia's position

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has accused French President Emmanuel Macron of lying about Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia's position. She wrote about this on August 17 in her Telegram channel.

Earlier, Macron, in an interview with Le Figaro newspaper, said that Russia was allegedly offering Ukraine surrender.

"What a low lie! For seven years, Russia has been offering a peaceful settlement of the internal Ukrainian crisis within the framework of the Minsk agreements," Zakharova said.

According to her, French politicians and statesmen are pushing for "Maidan", coups d'etat and other actions in Ukraine that undermine security and peace. Zakharova drew attention to the fact that Paris has done nothing to implement the Minsk agreements.

As she noted, Kiev's surrender was offered by those who inspired the idea of "victory on the battlefield," who supplied weapons to Ukraine to commit terrorist attacks, and who "lied and corrupted citizens with false promises." Zakharova also called Macron one of those people who were involved in all this.

Moscow and Washington are closer to "necessary solutions," Vladimir Putin said after the summit in Alaska.

The leader of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, said earlier that day that European leaders, with their visit to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump, together with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, were sabotaging the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that he could hardly imagine how much contempt the American leader should feel "for this bunch of corrupt people."

The day before, the Russian president said that Russia, like the United States, would like an early cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. Putin stressed that the elimination of the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis should be the basis for a settlement.

On August 15, a meeting between Putin and Trump took place in Anchorage. Following the meeting, the Russian leader noted the American leader's desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
