Forward of the hockey club (HC) of the National Hockey League (NHL) Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin entered the Russian Book of Records as the best scorer in the history of the regular league championships. This was announced on August 17 on the Book's website.
"Alexander Ovechkin was officially awarded, who set a world record for the highest number of goals scored by a player in the regular NHL championships. The result: 897 goals is a historic achievement that has already become a symbol of perseverance, stability and sportsmanship," the statement said.
In April, Ovechkin scored the 897th goal of his career. A new record for goals in regular NHL games was set against the Pittsburgh Penguins. In total, the Russian athlete played 64 games during the season, in which he scored 43 goals.
