Witkoff said there was no need for a cease-fire in Ukraine
Special Representative of the US President Steve Witkoff said on August 17 that there is virtually no need for a cease-fire in Ukraine right now, as peace agreements are being discussed.
"I understand the ceasefire as an interim step, after which it will be possible to negotiate a peace agreement. At this meeting, we made such progress on all the other components necessary for a peace agreement that President Trump switched to (a peace agreement. Therefore, we intend to try to conclude a peace agreement that will end the conflict forever, very quickly, faster than a cease—fire," he said in an interview with CNN.
