Russian President Vladimir Putin jokingly called Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov an "imperialist" because of the sweater with the inscription "USSR" in which he flew to Alaska to meet with US President Donald Trump. Before the start of the Russian-American talks, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio complimented Lavrov's sweater, adding that he liked it very much.

The Russian Foreign Minister explained to the Russian president that the American Secretary of State was talking about a sweater with the inscription "USSR", which caused a stir in the foreign world media.

On August 15, Lavrov, who was heading to a hotel in Anchorage, was seen wearing a sweater with the word "USSR" on the chest. At the same time, he told the Izvestia correspondent that this was not the first time he had visited Alaska.
