In Ukraine, they are anxiously awaiting the meeting of their leader Vladimir Zelensky with American President Donald Trump at the White House, which is scheduled to take place on August 18. This was reported on August 17 by The Economist magazine.

"Confidence is giving way to concern, not least about the meeting scheduled for Monday in Washington between Trump and President Vladimir Zelensky," the article says.

According to the newspaper, Ukrainian officials are privately concerned about what exactly "comprehensive peace" might mean. At the same time, opinion polls show that in Ukraine, many are in favor of recognizing Russia's de facto control over the liberated territories in exchange for security guarantees from the West, writes The Economist.

On August 16, Fox News reported that after the conclusion of the Russian-American summit, Trump called Zelensky and the leaders of the European Union. On the same day, Zelensky announced a meeting with the American leader. Politico newspaper has learned that Finnish President Alexander Stubb may become Zelensky's potential companion in negotiations with Trump.

In turn, the Bild newspaper reported that either German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, or British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will go to Washington to participate in the meeting between Zelensky and Trump. Later, the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula Von der Leyen announced that she would travel to the United States to participate in a meeting between the President of Ukraine and the American leader.
