Von der Leyen to travel to the United States for Zelensky-Trump meeting
President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula Von der Leyen announced on August 17 that she would travel to the United States on August 18 to participate in a meeting between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and American leader Donald Trump.
"At the request of President Zelensky, I will take part in a meeting with President Trump and other European leaders tomorrow at the White House," she wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Von der Leyen also added that she would receive the head of the Kiev regime in Brussels today to participate in a videoconference of the "coalition of the willing."
On August 16, Fox News reported that after the conclusion of the Russian-American summit, Trump called Zelensky and the leaders of the European Union (EU). On the same day, Zelensky announced a meeting with the American leader.
At the same time, Politico newspaper learned that Zelensky's "favorite interlocutor", Finnish President Alexander Stubb, could become a potential companion in negotiations with Trump.
In turn, the Bild newspaper reported that either German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, or British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will go to Washington to participate in the meeting between Zelensky and Trump.
