The preliminary investigation into the three defendants, who are accused of murdering the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection forces of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov, has ended. This was reported on August 17 by TASS with reference to the judicial materials of the Basmanny District Court.
It is clarified that at present, compliance with Article 215 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation ("Completion of the preliminary investigation with an indictment") has been fulfilled. In addition, the investigators familiarized the victims or their representatives with the case materials in accordance with Article 216 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation. At the moment, it remains for the investigators to familiarize the accused and his defense attorney with the materials of the criminal case in order to comply with Article 217 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.
Kirillov and his assistant died on the morning of December 17, 2024, as a result of detonating an explosive device planted in a scooter at the entrance of an apartment building in Moscow.
On January 16, a Moscow court detained three defendants in the criminal case of Kirillov's murder — Batukhan Tochiev, Akhmadjon Kurbonov and Ramazan Padiev (all listed as terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation). According to law enforcement agencies, the detainees, on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), provided housing and personal transport for the perpetrators of the terrorist attack against Kirillov.
