The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) does not notice the damage caused by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to the culture and heritage of the Kursk region. This was announced on August 17 by Alexander Alimov, Director of the Department for Multilateral Humanitarian Cooperation and Cultural Relations of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Executive Secretary of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO.

"It's been a long time since we've seen much interest from the UNESCO secretariat in things that specifically concern the Russian Federation. We are not happy about this situation, it is unfortunate and not new," Alimov told RIA Novosti.

He also expressed the hope that this situation will change after the election of a new Director General of UNESCO at the end of 2025.

On April 26, the head of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, reported on the liberation of the last Kursk village of Gornal from the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the total losses of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk area amounted to more than 76 thousand people. The Head of State congratulated and thanked the personnel of the military units of the Russian Armed Forces who took part in the defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region.

On May 20, Putin ordered the creation of a separate program for the restoration of churches in the Kursk region, as the enemy was turning them "into fortresses." He added that the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has demonstrated throughout history that "it is always with its people."

Earlier, on March 25, Putin said that Ukrainian militants, leaving the Kursk region, were destroying churches and cultural heritage sites, among other things. He stressed that the restoration of these facilities will be one of the points of the order, which will be formulated following the meeting of the Council for Culture and the Arts.
