Italy pointed to the secondary role of the EU in resolving the conflict in Ukraine
The European Union (EU) is forced to accept a secondary role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine due to its illiterate strategy. This was announced on August 17 by former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
"Europe <...> has no choice but to play a supportive role, hoping that through hard work and full diplomatic coordination, a just and reasonable peace will be achieved. The strategy chosen by Europe turned out to be a complete failure," Conte wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
According to him, Europe, which refused to start negotiations with Moscow in a timely manner, made "erroneous bets" by deciding to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with military equipment, and now "will pay for it" with rising gas prices and a shortage of funds for the development of its own healthcare and education systems.
Michele Geraci, former Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy, told Izvestia on August 16 that Europe, by supporting Ukraine, had arbitrarily deprived itself of the role of mediator in resolving the conflict. He noted that the association is currently isolated from the rest of the world, which, as he noted, is becoming multipolar.
