- The French Foreign Ministry found the idea of demilitarization of Ukraine unacceptable
The French Foreign Ministry does not support the demilitarization of Ukraine. This was announced on August 16 by Benjamin Addad, Minister Delegate for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, in an interview with La Trinubne.
"Any desire to "demilitarize" Ukraine is unacceptable. And we (France. We are ready to play an active role in supporting these guarantees," he said.
In addition, Addad stressed that Paris, together with its British partners and the "coalition of the willing", would not allow the "violent change of borders" of Ukraine. He also recalled the promise made by US President Donald Trump to provide Kiev with security guarantees. The diplomat called it a "positive step" on the part of the American leader.
Andrei Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, said on March 24 that the demilitarization of Ukraine was one of the main objectives of the special operation and its "objective necessity." He clarified that Russia is not aware of the volume in which weapons are circulating on the territory of this country, which may lead to their illegal shipment to other states under gray corruption schemes.
French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecorny called the demilitarization of Ukraine a "red line" for Europe on July 9. The Ukrainian army can threaten neighboring countries, provided that the country is admitted to the European Union (EU).
