In Japan, an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred near the island of Kyushu. This was announced on August 16 by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

The seismic event occurred at 21:13 UTC (03:13 Moscow time), 126 km northeast of Kagoshima with a population of 555 thousand people. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 27 km.

It is specified that information about the victims has not been received.
