- An adviser to Netanyahu's office described Israel's conditions for concluding a deal with Hamas
Israel has put forward a number of conditions to the Palestinian Hamas movement, under which it will be ready to conclude a ceasefire deal — supporters of the movement must lay down their arms and simultaneously release all hostages. This was announced on August 16 by Dmitry Gendelman, adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"Israel is ready to consider an agreement only if all hostages are released at the same time and within the framework of our principles of ending the war. These principles include: the complete disarmament of Hamas," he said in a Telegram message.
It is clarified that several more points of the requirements of Netanyahu's office were the demilitarization of the entire territory of the Gaza Strip, which will be controlled by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In addition, the Israeli side insists on a change of government, the new representatives of which will "peacefully" side by side with it.
The Arab League, in particular Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, together with France, approved the UN declaration on resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and also called on Hamas to disarm. Later, on August 2, according to the Al Arabiya TV channel, the official representatives of the movement rejected this proposal.
On August 10, Netanyahu called the absence of a state of Palestine the main problem in relations between the Jewish state and the Gaza Strip.
