NDTV announced the cancellation of the visit of US trade negotiators to India
The visit of trade negotiators from the United States to India, which was scheduled for the end of August, has been canceled, and a new date has not yet been set. This was announced on August 16 by NDTV.
"Against the background of tension in economic relations due to tariff increases, the planned visit of the American delegation to India for trade negotiations, which was scheduled to take place from August 25 to 29, was canceled," the publication says.
According to the broadcaster, the parties were supposed to continue negotiations on a bilateral trade agreement between Washington and New Delhi. It is noted that it is especially important now, given the 25% duties imposed by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods.
On August 6, Trump signed a decree imposing an additional 25% duty on imports from India. The White House clarified that this measure was introduced in connection with India's "direct or indirect" imports of petroleum products from Russia.
Shortly after, the chairman of the opposition Indian National Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, said that the US imposition of trade duties on imports of Indian goods was economic blackmail.
