The US State Department has suspended the issuance of visas for residents of the Gaza Strip. On August 16, the agency announced this on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"The issuance of all guest visas to citizens of Gaza is suspended," the US Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It is clarified that at the moment the State Department is checking the process and methods that have been used in issuing temporary medical and humanitarian visas in recent days.

Earlier, on August 13, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdel Ata said that Egypt would hold a conference on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip after reaching a ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel. He explained that issues related to the organization of the enclave would be discussed at the meeting.

On August 14, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wrote that the West does not show sensitivity to the situation in Gaza, which it shows in relation to the Ukrainian crisis. He also noted that if the West had paid as much attention to Gaza as to Ukraine, "today we would have a completely different picture" in the enclave.
