The Government of Ukraine can count on the "unwavering solidarity" of European countries in achieving peace. This was announced on August 16 by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"Ukraine can count on our unwavering solidarity in our efforts to achieve peace that will ensure the vital security interests of Ukraine and Europe," the publication says.

In addition, the Chancellor expressed support for the efforts of US President Donald Trump to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and achieve peace.

The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 at the American military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, and lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes. Following the meeting, the Russian president noted the American leader's desire to resolve the conflict. Putin noted that Russia is also interested in ending the conflict in Ukraine, but this requires eliminating all the root causes of the crisis.

On August 16, Acting Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schof also expressed support for Trump. He stressed that a positive step is also the joint work of Europe and the United States on the necessary security guarantees for Kiev.
