- In Ukraine, an investigation was launched because of the words of the ex-head of the Ministry of Culture Tochitsky about the UOC
An investigation is underway in Ukraine against former Culture Minister Mykola Tochytsky in the case of inciting inter-religious hatred in connection with his statements about the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). As lawyer Nikita Chekman, representing the interests of the UOC, reported on August 16, the trial was organized by the Territorial State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine (GBR).
He noted that after the statement by representatives of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, a pre-trial investigation was launched into the presence of calls in Tochytsky's words to incite inter-religious hatred.
"A pre-trial investigation has been launched in criminal proceedings to verify the fact of the possible commission of a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely incitement to religious hatred committed by the Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, Nikolai Stanislavovich Tochitsky," Chekman said in his Telegram channel.
He noted that the statements of the former minister that caused the claims were uttered by him while commenting on the order "On the dismissal of Maxim Anatolyevich Ostapenko" from the post of director general of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra National Reserve.
On August 14, Verkhovna Rada deputy Artem Dmitruk told Izvestia that Kiev would not stop putting pressure on the UOC, even if it provided evidence of its lack of ties with the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). On July 18, the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience instructed the UOC to provide evidence of a complete severance of ties with the Russian Orthodox Church within a month.
