Although Russia and the United States have a long way to go, the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American Leader Donald Trump in Alaska is already progress, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on August 16.

"We still have a long way to go, but we have made progress," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

In addition, Rubio expressed the hope that the meeting would be an impetus for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

"We will see, hopefully soon," the American Secretary of State replied to a question about the date and place of the next summit between the states.

The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stressed that the dialogue between the leaders was positive and constructive.

The next day, economist and political analyst Loretta Napoleoni said that Europe would not be able to support Ukraine for a long time without the United States. According to the analyst, the problem of the European countries of Europe is that Russia is in a more advantageous position. At the same time, without American support, EU assistance to Ukraine will not be sustainable in the long term.
