The European leaders have prepared a joint statement following a conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, during which they discussed the results of the Russia-US summit in Alaska. This was announced on August 16 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

According to him, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni took part in the talks with Zelensky.

"We have listened to Zelensky's opinion and prepared a joint statement," Tusk wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier in the day, the leaders of the European Union (EU) expressed their support for US President Donald Trump for his efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and achieve peace. The EU leaders also indicated the willingness of the association to work with the American leader and the President of Ukraine towards a trilateral summit.

The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump took place on August 15 at the American military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. At a press conference following the meeting, Putin noted the American leader's desire to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, Trump said that the negotiations went very well, and called the summit in Alaska wonderful.
