European leaders welcomed Trump's efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine
The leaders of the European countries expressed their support to US President Donald Trump for his efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict and achieve peace. The corresponding joint statement was published on August 16 on the website of the Council of the European Union (EU).
"We clearly understand that Ukraine must have inviolable security guarantees to effectively protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We welcome President Trump's statement that the United States is ready to provide security guarantees," the publication says.
The statement notes the EU's willingness to work with Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky towards a trilateral summit. The publication also highlights the union's intention to continue to support Kiev. In addition, the EU noted that Ukraine should make the decision on the division of the territory on its own.
