The scammers started using vsf (vCard File) files to replace contacts in the phone book. This was announced on August 16 by the press service of the center for combating Ukrainian call centers.
It clarifies that Russians can now receive a message that disguises itself as an important notification from a bank, delivery service, or even friends and family.vcf file. It recommends opening the file to get important information. Next, the phone prompts you to save a new contact or update an existing one.
"The process of maintaining contact happens quickly and often without unnecessary questions. The victim may not even notice that a new contact has appeared in her address book or the number in the old one has changed (if the scammers used the name of an existing contact)," follows from the publication in the Telegram channel.
The press service of the department warns that files should not be opened.vcf and any other attachments in messages from unknown senders to avoid such incidents.
Earlier, on August 15, the Interior Ministry warned about the dangers of using messengers. It was clarified that they are actively used by fraudsters for criminal purposes by sending messages and calls. For example, call centers from Ukraine prefer this method of communication, since Internet connections are more difficult to track. In addition, messengers serve as a means of recruiting Russian citizens by the Ukrainian special services.
