Nothing threatens international security as long as there is a dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as proved by the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska. This was announced on August 16 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"The world is safer as long as there is a high-level Russian-American dialogue, so it is an honor to the two presidents for organizing the summit. Today it was proved again: the solution to the conflict in Ukraine is not on the battlefield, but at the negotiating table," reads a message posted on his Facebook page (a social network banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation).

According to Szijjarto, the solution of the Ukrainian issue is possible only through diplomatic means, provided that contacts are maintained. He stressed that Budapest has been adhering to this opinion for three and a half years, unlike European politicians who are not interested in resolving the conflict.

On August 15, Putin said at a press conference after talks with Trump that he agreed with the statement that the conflict with Ukraine could have been avoided if Trump had been president of the United States at the time of its outbreak. The Russian President also expressed the hope that the understanding reached with the American side would pave the way for peace in Ukraine.

Szijjarto said on August 14 that the European Union (EU) is pursuing a "harmful and erroneous" policy, adhering not to a strategy of peace, but to a path of inciting conflict. He clarified that Europe needs cooperation with the Russian Federation to ensure its own security.
