The People's Republic of China welcomes contacts between Russia and the United States aimed at resuming interstate goals and a political settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. This was announced on August 16 by the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu.
"China welcomes the cooperation between Russia and the United States in order to establish bilateral relations and move towards a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. There are no simple solutions to complex issues," he said in an interview with TASS, commenting on the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Liu Pengyu stressed that Beijing, regardless of "how the situation develops," will support all efforts made by the Russian and American sides to resolve the Ukrainian issue peacefully.
The meeting between Putin and Trump took place on August 15 in Anchorage, Alaska. Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the dialogue between the Russian and American leaders was positive and constructive.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna, said that Putin and Trump can make international relations "healthier." Russian Ambassador to the United States Alexander Darichev called the atmosphere at the talks "positive", he said that the parties discussed the return of six confiscated Russian real estate and the restoration of flights.
