According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, his working relationship with the head of the White House, Donald Trump, may become a factor contributing to ending the conflict in Ukraine. Putin said this at a press conference following the talks on August 15.

"In general, President Trump and I have established a very good business and trusting contact. And I have every reason to believe that, moving along this path, we can reach — and the sooner the better — the end of the conflict in Ukraine," Putin said.

The Russian President also announced Russia's readiness to work to ensure Ukraine's security.

At the Russian-US summit in Alaska, Putin expressed hope that the understanding reached between the parties would pave the way for peace in Ukraine.

Putin also called the talks with Trump constructive and noted that Russia and the United States are close neighbors separated only by the Bering Strait.
