Russian President Vladimir Putin considered the organization of a meeting with his American counterpart Donald Trump in Alaska quite reasonable. The head of state stated this at a press conference following the talks on August 15.

"I would like to thank you once again <...> for the offer to come to Alaska. It is quite logical to meet here, because our countries, although we are separated by oceans, are actually close neighbors," Putin said.

He also suggested that Trump hold the next meeting in Russia.

The joint conference of the leaders of Russia and the United States ended without answering questions from journalists. Putin and Trump shook hands after making statements to the media and left together.

Following the talks, Putin noted Trump's desire for a settlement in Ukraine, stressing that Russia is also interested in ending the conflict. He also stated that he agrees with the statement of his colleague from the United States that the conflict in Ukraine would not have started under his rule.
