Putin arrives in Alaska to meet with Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Anchorage, Alaska, for a meeting with American leader Donald Trump at the Air Force Base USA Elmendorf Richardson.
The landing of the Russian leader's plane was accompanied by US F-22A fighters, ensuring the safety of the flight completion.
On the Russian side, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov are present at the leaders' meeting. The American delegation included Stephen Witkoff, Special Representative of the President of the United States, and Marco Rubio, Secretary of State.
Earlier it was clarified that the central topic of the negotiations will be the Ukrainian conflict.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow would set out its clear position during the negotiations, and much had already been done during the visits of the special envoy of the American president, Steven Witkoff.
On August 13, Trump called the ceasefire in Ukraine the main goal of the meeting with Putin. The American leader also expressed confidence in the possibility of signing a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine in the coming months. Commenting on this issue, the US president stated the need for territorial concessions.
