- Russia's permanent representative in Vienna called the summit of the Russian Federation and the United States a chance to improve relations in the world.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump can improve international relations. This was announced on August 16 by Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna.
"There is a real chance to make the current international relations much healthier. The leaders of Russia and the United States can do this," he wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Ulyanov added that Ukraine and the European Union (EU) will continue their efforts to disrupt the positive trends in relations between Russia and the United States.
The talks between Putin and Trump began on August 15 at the American military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. On the Russian side, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov are taking part in the talks, while on the American side, Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are taking part.
Ushakov said on August 14 that the central topic of the Russia-US summit in Alaska would be a discussion of the crisis in Ukraine.
