Japan noted the historical significance of Putin's visits to the United States
Russian President Vladimir Putin's previous trips to the United States to meet with American leaders often led to new stages in relations between the states. This was reported on August 15 by the Japanese edition of Sankei Shimbun.
"Putin's previous visits to the United States symbolized each new era. This latest visit to the United States may open a new chapter in history," the publication says.
In particular, it is noted that in the early 2000s, the visits of the President of the Russian Federation to the United States led to a deepening of cooperation between the countries.
Putin's flight landed at Anchorage Airport earlier in the day. An American colleague personally met him there. At the meeting, the heads of state shook hands and exchanged a couple of remarks, after which they proceeded to the meeting place in Trump's car. Later, the presidents began negotiations.
The central topic of the meeting of the heads of state will be the discussion of the conflict in Ukraine. Their meeting will be held in a three-on-three format with the participation of ministers.
