Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to develop mechanisms to support projects to extract rare metals from subsurface use and production waste. The corresponding order is contained in the list of instructions of the head of state published on the Kremlin's website following the results of the St. Petersburg International Economic Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"Taking into account the previously given instructions, consider creating mechanisms to support projects involving the extraction of valuable components, including rare and rare earth metals, from subsurface use and industrial waste," the material says.

It is noted that the report on the execution of the order must be submitted to the head of state by September 1, 2025.

On April 25, the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Sergei Shoigu, announced that Russia is one of the leaders in reserves of rare earth metals in the world. At the same time, Shoigu clarified that at the moment there are no production facilities in the country that allow for final products.

Earlier, in February, Putin proposed to consider the development of rare and rare earth metals in the country. He noted that this area is the most important resource base of the modern economy, as well as in creating the infrastructure of the digital economy in many industries.
