The Russian-American summit will give Moscow and Washington a chance to discuss the future architecture of global security without the participation of secondary forces. This opinion was shared with Izvestia on August 15 by German political scientist Eike Hamer, commenting on the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US Leader Donald Trump in Alaska.

He noted that the secondary forces will follow what the major powers are discussing. At the same time, the parties to the negotiations are unlikely to make official statements to the media, leaving the present agreements "behind closed doors."

"I can well imagine that this will lead to a new division of the Eurasian continent, to the emergence of new trade opportunities and opportunities for cooperation," Hamer said.

The political scientist believes that Ukraine and European leaders will have no real weight in these processes. And Russia and the United States will again find a way to talk directly to each other, which Europe will obviously not like.

"These will be very productive behind-the-scenes negotiations. They will probably be the first step towards changing relations with the so-called radical West. The Europeans will try to support this conflict, but having no opportunities, no chances, and as a result, they will retreat with fright and shouts at the higher powers," the expert added.

He added that following the meeting in Alaska, Russia will take a dominant position in relation to European leaders.

According to a correspondent of Izvestia in Anchorage, the media and experts from Western countries made optimistic forecasts for the Russian Federation before the start of negotiations in Alaska. The American media called the meeting in Alaska a big victory for the Russian president. The biggest reason for the unrest of the West and Ukraine is the issue of Kiev's territorial concessions, which are characterized as inevitable.

Putin and Trump will meet at the US Air Force base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage on August 15 at about 11:30 local time (22:30 Moscow time). The central theme of the summit will be the discussion of the Ukrainian conflict.
